Outdoor Wall Art...




Sharing a lovely piece of wall art today...


This topiary design is painted on a tile.  
All the more special as it was a gift for my birthday, 
but this has pride of place in the outside entrance foyer to my kitchen.
It contrasts well with the stucco texture of the house walls.


The burnished metal swirls are gorgeous.

Which gives the design the French look I adore!

'Laundry' Sign....

You can buy all sorts of quirky Laundry signs nowadays...
But I wanted to hand-craft one to match the blue of my laundry walls...
Plus hand-crafting is so much more fun than walking into a shop 
and just buying it!


This is how I made my laundry sign.... 


First of all I cut an MDF board to the desired size, and then painted it white.


 Using free lettering from the net, I block coloured the letters in blue, 
and printed using my home printer,  
then cut out the letter shapes...


I roughly hand tore the edges of three squares of 
pretty contrasting scrapbook paper.


Glued the squares onto the board first,
 then the lettering spaced over the squares.
I did this freehand, 
but if you want use a ruler to get perfect spacing.


Using permanent black stamping ink and desired stamps, 
stamp an edging design around the board.


 Once stamping ink is dry, 
use a black sharpie pen to outline the lettering.
When dry, lightly and quickly so as to not smudge the inks,
 coat entire board with a sealer.
(I used 'Mod Podge').


And here's the end result!
I'm really happy with how it looks with the blue walls!

Coffee Walnut Cake...

I love cake, don't you?
Sometimes it is nice to whip up a cake and serve it warm for dessert.
I wanted to test this recipe for 'Coffee Walnut Cake'.


Walnuts off the trees in Mia Bella Gardens...


In a pot put 125ml milk, 75g butter,  and 1 tablespoon coffee granules
Stir over heat until butter has melted... Then add 110g caster sugar, 1/2 cup chopped walnuts, and one egg that has been lightly whisked.  Stir until combined, and then add 150g self-raising flour.
Put into a loaf pan and bake at 160 celcius for 30 minutes or until skewer comes out clean.

Leave in pan for 10 minutes, then turn onto rack.
When completely cool, ice with coffee butter icing.

 Use an electric mixer to beat 100g soft butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
until pale and creamy...
Add 160g icing sugar and 1 teaspoon coffee granules.
Beat again until combined.
Ice cake.


Sprinkle top of cake with chopped walnut pieces.

The recipe only made a small cake ( I will double the recipe next time I make it!), 
but that was ample for four adults for dessert.
We enjoyed it warm with a dollop of whipped cream... 
the coffee flavours would be more developed if served cold.
