Beach & Ocean - Coastal Style

Coastal Style

 Beach Avant Guarde

Beach vibes, Hamptons, cane and rattan...rooms with seaside elements and colours...

When decorating Coastal style remember it's just like enjoying time at the beach, with nothing being too overwhelming.

Pops of colour on a neutral base embrace open uncluttered spaces with clean lines and natural light.

The goal is to create calmness.

Coastal Style
Shell On Driftwood

The main colour palette is beige, tan, white and warm whites.

The accent colours in grey, aqua, seafoam, deep-sea blue, seagrass greens, soft beach toned yellows or coral.

Accessories, fixtures and fittings in brass, wood or distressed wood, cane, rattan, glass, mirrors, seashells, driftwood, jute, seagrass, or rope.

Coastal Style
Internal Spirals Throw Pillow

Soft pillows in your accent colours.

Billowy white drapes.

Then add beach-inspired photography or art, like the examples shown.

Then you have successfully succeeded in bringing the beach into your home!

DIY Fringed Throw

DIY Throw

Isn't is funny what you remember from your childhood.

Things like pretending builders' sawhorses were our ponies, complete with reins and saddles.

And helping Mum fray the edges to create a fringe on the homemade fabric doilies and coffee table runners she was making.

Oh, how I particularly loved to do this.

And that 'fray' memory is what this blog post is all about.

DIY Throw

I purchased 2 x 2.4 metres of cotton fabric from Spotlight online.

DIY Throw

It has a loose weave.

Perfect for fraying.

And that really is the secret.

DIY Throw

The fabric has to have a weave that is not tight.

DIY Throw

As you need to be able to pick with a needle the individual weave strands to pull.

DIY Throw

Mum always stitched by machine about 1 inch from the edge around the entire fabric piece if she frayed all four edges.

DIY Throw

If she only frayed the top and bottom,

she would roll, iron and stitch a small side seam after fraying was complete.

DIY Throw
So this is my frayed edge DIY fringed throw.

It was fun to make.

And in doing so returned to mind some lovely memories.

With its boho look, this throw is super pretty in the decor too.

Goodbye Aqua Overload- Hello Tropical!

Guest Bedroom Makeover

All those that follow Mia Bella Passion blog know

all about my love for the colour aqua.

And love, love, love it I do.

It's been an out of control type of love affair!

But it was time for a change.

Aqua everything in my home decor has been in overload mode for years.

And the time to change it up a bit for something new had come.

So when Photowall Sweden approached me to write about and style a product on their behalf, I grabbed the chance.

Photowall Sweden offers wonderfully superb wallpaper, wall mural, plus poster and print choices on canvas or framed.

The selection of images is massively vast.

Or if you prefer you can even create your own masterpiece.

They will print it just for you.

My guestroom window outlook is toward a covered deck.

The colours in this deck space are bright and fun with a tropical aspect.

So this was the perfect opportunity to say goodbye to the aqua overload and hello to tropical!

Guest Bedroom Makeover

I chose a gorgeous monstera deliciosa image.

I honestly spent hours looking at all their images and it was very hard to make a choice!

Deliciosa brings the word delicious to mind as a descriptive word for their selection.

Guest Bedroom Makeover

And it seriously is!

The monstera deliciosa selected also has a fan palm sister in the same colour form. (Just in case you want to do side by side pictures).

Guest Bedroom Makeover

But I wanted a single statement canvas wall art piece, so the size of this print is big.

90cm x 120cm.

(The one thing I love about Photowall is the fact you can select the size you want).

Order placed, I waited for it to arrive.

And within 7 days it had left Sweden and arrived in New Zealand at my door.

(That's pretty amazing considering Covid 19 situations have played havoc with shipping and mail services!)

Photowall

The print to frame DIY happened.

How cute is this pop of lime?

Guest Bedroom Makeover

Oh, Hello Tropical.

With a teeny hint of Aqua.

(OK I admit I had 'letting go' issues to say goodbye completely)

You are funky.

Bright.

Fun.

And meld into the deck scape view perfectly.

Tropical...

I think...I love you.

Christmas Door Wreath

It's going to be a funny (but not the haha sort) weird kinda Christmas for me this year...

But 2020 has been just that, hasn't it?

There will be no tree this year.

I'll tell you more about the reason why in a while...

But I am doing a door wreath.

And a table feature.

But in superbly 'KISS' (keep it simple stupid) style!

This is why I love Online Christmas stores.

Because when you have no time to craft it, create it or DIY make it,

their ready-made is just right!

Plus it's delivered to your home directly.

So for the front door this year I chose a pretty metal and faux pine and greenery wreath.

Christmas Door Wreath

Noel is considered a French word but it actually dates back to the  Latin word Nasci, which means to be born.

In the middle ages, Noel described the Christmas period.

'Joyeux Noël is Merry Christmas in French'.

A Snippet Of Teacup History...

Teacup History
The history of the humble teacup dates back thousands of years.
The first vessels shipped to European countries were without handles.
They were small hand-formed and bowl-like.
Tea vessels as they were known were shipped from China and Japan in the 17th century.
Tea drunk from these vessels was warm, not hot, so holding the vessels was not a problem.
The first Europen imitations also without handles were made at Meissen in Germany using hard-paste porcelain.
The handle on the teacup, also a German invention, with designs as early as 1707.
The handle developed on the cup due to the fact the English preferred to drink tea hot.
The saucers first role in early European times was to pour tea onto it to cool then drink from.
The saucer later evolved as a cup placement vessel when handles were added to cups.
Teacups have over the centuries been loved both by tea drinkers and teacup collectors.

Mia Bella Passions Blog
In the 21st century, they are used not only for tea drinking, but as home decor accessories, candles, jewellery holders, and vases for mini posies or a little bunch of one flower type.

Mia Bella Passions Blog
How many of us acquired a teacup and saucer or if so lucky, a tea set from Grandmas collection.
My brother gifted an antique teacup and saucer as my 21st birthday gift.
And even though I am no longer actively collecting, the teacups and sets that I do have are used.

Celebrate Purple And Mauve!

Canvas Print

'Mist Star'

 Purple...

Perfect pops of colour for decor accents.

Purple and aqua look stunning together as an accent colour.

Here are a few ideas for some purple inspired wall art.

I've shown canvas images here today,

but these are also available framed under glass if you prefer that.

But artwork and photography images presented on canvas has become a popular choice, due to the fact they're modern and durable.

There are no glare and reflection issues you have with glass either.
